Kansas & Oklahoma

Another piece of heaven we have come to cherish is in SW Kansas, near the Oklahoma panhandle. We have close to 22,000 acres leased full of cedar draws, hog backs, miles of open prairie, ponds and streams. It’s our little paradise. Our hunting season here will begin January 1st ending January 31st in Kansas, but continuing until Feb 15th in Oklahoma. It is a shorter season, however the quality is unmatched.  Our leases are in the heart of trophy whitetail country. Here the deer hunting takes precedence over everything else with no other hunting on these leases until the close of the season. The deer hunting ends in late December, giving way to our bird hunts for the last month of the season. The plus side to this is that these birds have not been hunted, it’s much like our South Dakota hunts, and it’s just like opening day.

This is big country and will give our string of setters a chance to open up and really roll through the prairie, it’s breathtaking. Quail numbers are good and an occasional pheasant can be taken in some of the lower ground. Late winter bob’s can be tough on the best of dogs running from danger, short flights, then scattering like…well a covey of quail. It’s the explosive covey rise that sets one back on their heels, the confusion of birds…and if you wait too long they are gone. What a grand bird!

Quail have long been called the “Prince” of game birds and the ruffed grouse “King”. How fortunate are we to be able to guide you on these great birds, known as the Prince and King of game birds.

Join Steve and Gayle as they hunt the best birds in the best areas of this great country. We know you’ll be hunting with us for years to come, just as so many have.
