Minnesota Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock Hunts;

Double Gun Bird Hunts are bird hunters for bird hunters. Ruffed Grouse and woodcock are our signature hunts in Minnesota beginning in late September the hunts continue through October. All our hunts, whether it be in MN, SD or KS are inclusive, providing guide service, meals, lodging, field transportation and game cleaning. The lodges are very private all with private bathrooms, fireplaces and lounging areas.

The Little Moran grouse camp started in 1987 with a string of 6 setters and a reputation for providing hunters with unmatched ruffed grouse and woodcock hunting. During this time is when Steve gained the reputation as the “Grouseman” always handling a brace of setters and offering a string of grouse dogs which proved to be some of the best in the Minnesota north-woods. Today the guide string is up to a dozen or more setters, springers and retrievers. Our guides are also a huge asset to our bird hunts, they are professional, passionate bird hunters and good dog men. The ruffed grouse hunts in Minnesota are a maximum of 2 guns per guide, a very high end hunting experience.

In Minnesota our maximum number of hunters is 8 in camp, and in South Dakota we have 2 lodges with a maximum of 12 guns  per lodge. We are all about quality and tradition, not big numbers of hunters walking a field, or being shuttled in a hunting bus.

A typical grouse hunt will start after breakfast, heading to our favorite covers where a hunt will last 2-2.5 hours. We hunt 3-5 covers a day with each cover giving you a different type of habitat. Our terrain is mostly flat, the actual walk/hunt is easy….it’s all the clear cuts and brush that provides the challenge. Foliage will typically be down mid October after a couple good frosts. Our woodcock migration usually come’s through in mid October and depending on weather can last a week to two weeks.

Double Gun Bird Hunts:  100% WILD UPLAND BIRD HUNTS

While training for Burnt Creek Setters it became apparent of how the setter got it’s claim to fame in grouse covers. They consistently pointed grouse with style and finesse. It was then we began guiding friends and guiding at the Grand Nat’l Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock Hunt and the Grand Nat’l Quail Hunt in Enid, OK…..we’ve evolved from there.

Today we have expanded our bird hunts to South Dakota, Kansas and Oklahoma. The hunts in South Dakota are a maximum of 4 guns per guide. Where we hunt 120,000 private acres of mixed habitat and native prairie for prairie chicken, sharptail grouse, huns and pheasant. Join us as our setters sweep the grouse covers of Mn and roll through the endless expanse of prairie. Click the “Upland Hunts” tab for complete information.

Little Moran – Preserve Pheasant Hunts:  In 1984 the hunt club was founded on the “Grossman” family farm which was homesteaded by great grandfather June 14 1902. In 2011 we were honored to host the English Cocker Nat’l Championship, our cover, birds and facility all contributing factors in choosing us. We are open to the public hunting in early September to January first. Hunts are self guided or one of our guides and their dogs are available. We offer a full dining menu with seating for 50 in the Granary and Drumming log dining rooms as well as our “Thunder Chicken Tavern”, lodging for groups up to 26.
